WORKSHOP CONTENT

Does an algorithm/atom/octopus/bacteria have a world? Our perception has been
limited to what is visible to the human eye and human world. Science and technical
fields see the universe more expansively and fundamentally that we as artists and
designers are only beginning to explore. But what does the world look like through
radically different eyes? Can we even comprehend this new perspective?
For this workshop, you are asked to imagine what the universe looks like from the
perspective of a non-human. This can be an invented creature or an existing one. You
will begin by living and thinking as this organism for at least a day, document your
experiences, thoughts in writing, visual and auditory form.
In this experimental media art workshop we will employ video, sound, 3D scanning to
engage others around us—both human and non-human—and create new fictional
worlds in concert with the life forms around and inside us. We will discuss imminent
texts from contemporary posthumanist philosophy, enhance our understanding of
qualia, other minds, object oriented ontology and learn to translate these concepts to
our visual practice.
