Graduate seminar in Bergen: Psychosocial responses to natural disasters/climate change on crisis planning and emergency preparedness

Centre for crisis psychology and professor Atle Dyregrov invite you to a 3-day seminar in Bergen, Norway.

The number of people affected by natural disasters each year are alarmingly high and can be expected to rise as climate change continues. The mental consequences have been documented not only in rates of posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) and PTSD, but also for depression and other mental health problems.

This seminar aims at raising consciousness and improve students’ ability to respond with effective interventions that can be scaled up to meet the demands for psychosocial help in future disasters.

Day 1. (November 17th): Open conference on psychosocial issues following natural disasters/climate change. Open for students from all professions, professionals, media, and the public.
Venue: The University Aula, Bergen.

Day 2 and 3, (November 18th and 19th): The student seminar on psychosocial issues related to natural disasters/climate change. This seminar will be open to 20 students currently taking part in a BA- or MA program in psychology or related areas from the Nordic countries. Application after invitation only.

Venue for day 2 and 3 to be announced. Center for crisis psychology reserves the right to select participants among the incoming applications. Travel and hotel will be covered, based on the Norwegian state guidelines for travel/accomodation.

Workload: Five ECTS (University of Bergen)
Recommended reading: 200 pages
Formal evaluation: Case report in English (5000 words): pass/fail
In order to obtain credits, all three days must be attended. THE SEMINAR AND ITS WORKLOAD MUST BE APPROVED BY THE FACULTY BOARD IN ORDER TO BE CREDIT-YIELDING.
